As small business owners, what are you all doing for insurance. My last business I had, I ended up with about 30 employees and we had insurance through an HMO.
Now my current business is just me and I intend to keep it that way as long as possible. That being said, I have intentionally started myself with a very limited budget, for a number of reasons. So I am growing the business almost entirely through its own revenue. I will soon be to the point where I need to decide what I am going to do for insurance. I have been fortunate that I have not really been ill the last several years, but I still need to be thinking ahead.
I know in the past there were often trade associations and such that had deals for small businesses. I would like to find out what some of you are doing for insurance.

I'm using the insurance from my night job. But, when my business gets to the point that I need to leave that job, I will be joining the local chanber of commerce. They offer a group discount on medical and dental.
I'd recommend looking into C of Cs and other local trade groups.

In Canada -- where I am from...health coverage ins't that big of a deal for use self-employed -- because our govt covers it...however for benefits like dental, eye exams and stuff not covered it is a fantastic idea to join a local trade group that would offer such coverage.
Good tip...thanks!

That is what I was thinking. Chamber of Commerces and/or any small business associations. Insurance and such are probably my least favorite things to deal with, another reason why I do not want any employees.
On a different subject, is there way to post under the quote? I feel like I am just missing something here, but for the life of me I can't get the cursor to drop below the quote box.

That's very possible. The WYSIWIG feature of WowBB was designed arounf features from IE 5.5 and higher. I'll check the WowBB support forums to see if they have any advice for Firefox users.

I found insurance coverage through an insurance broker. And believe it or not I get excellent coverage for a good price. They work with people who are self employed to help them find the coverage needed at an affordable price.

Did you go to someone who specializes in health insurance only, or were you able to get it through a traditional home, life, auto broker?
I know the licensing requirements are different for all the different aspects, but that sounds like one road to pursue for sure.

| In the business that I owned, none of the employees were fulltime, so health insurance was not required. It was sort of like an independent contractor type thing. I was already insured under my husband, so it wasn't a problem for me, and my employees were also covered under someone else.

| There are lots of insurance companies out there now that sell insurance for individuals who are self-employed or policies for families for people who have no other insurance. We looked at both, and it was cheaper for us to get a family policy than it was to get the policy for the self-employed.
