Before starting my business I talked to some other small business owners. They were friends and family members with businesses or who were self employed. This was a good starting point for me to make a list of things I needed to consider when starting my business.
I could learn from some of the mistakes that they made. It was also a way to get some very valuable ideas about how to increase the chances that my business would be more successful. Everyone I talked to was quite a bit older than me so they had been in their business for five years at the very least. So I knew they had some good tips and insights.
I agree with that. I started my first business when I was relatively young and made father took over a very large business that he worked for when he was in his early 40s.
Many of my friends also run their own small businesses. These are friends I have had since before high school. So I have a pretty good pool of experience and advice with wide array of backgrounds. It is a nice resource to pull from for sure.
