| Do you think it is risky to start a restaurant? I have heard that about 60 % of all new restaurants fail, but out of about 10 new ones that opened here about the same time five years ago, 8 of them are still open.

It all depends on your market and the customer base. Also poll the people walking down the street in the area you are thinking of placing this restaurant. Find out if they think there's a need and also find out where they eat out. See what their opinion of local eating establishments are.
You may be surprised at some of the responses you get, but it will help you get an idea of what is needed and if you have a formal set of questions, you can record responses and use that as part of the market research section of your business plan.

Any kind of business is risky. It really depends on your market, location and how you deliver your service. Don't be afraid to face the risk it is part of the ball game.
Good luck('',)

| Thanks to both of you for your advice. That thing about asking people in the neighborhood what kind of restaurant they would like in the area is a really good idea. What better way to find out what would do good in a certain area.
