Hi,
just want to share there my experience with having a business on eBay.
It's pretty easy to set up one. You just need to find your own niche,in which you need to specialize and have a good market analysis prior starting.
Then, you must find products to be sold. Remember that you must be competitive, and point to have a revenue on a long term buy selling a large number of items with a small margin (IMHO).
Using this technique I became a powerseller and still increasing my business.
What about you? Anybody there tried out dropshipping?

falco85,
I've thought about trying to start an ebay business, but I just can't seem to locate products to resell at a competitive price.
Do you have any tips?

Personally, I find the best way to run an Ebay business is to just be patient.
Know the market and supply only so much that you will profit off it. You have to watch other sales very frequently in order to set your prices. This is all I really know because I don't have an Ebay biz, but this is what makes the most logical sense

A good way to get started with eBay, especially if you unable to find products from a dropshipper or at a low enough costs to truly make it worth it --- you can always start a local "We Sell it on eBay" Store....people who want to sell their stuff, but do not knwo how or who cannot be bothered can sell through you....you would obviously take a commission on the sale minus ebay fees and paypal fees

Yeah, a store like that just opened up in my neighborhood. It looks like it is getting a decent amount of business.
I'v never really tried to start a business on ebay, but i sell things from time to time. Its defintely a great way to come up with some extra cash. Sometimes when Im bored I just try to think up goofy auction to put up for fun. A few of them have even made me a bit of money.

So when you guys are talking about an e-bay business you are talking about having merchandise and re-selling it through e-bay? Perhaps through an affiliate program or drop shipper or something?
I am extremely ignorant of E-Bay even though I have been on the internet forever. My old day experiences with E-Bay was that people would often overpay for stuff on e-bay once they got sucked up into an auction. IE they might end up playing $94.50 for something they could buy brand new for $80.00 in many other places.
Is that still common?

I dont know, I never really noticed that before. I really dont think products usually sell for more than retail prices though. Sometimes people will forget about shipping and that will push their total to more than retail price, but I have never sold anything that is readily available in stores for more than retail.

I was actually on the internet before E-Bay, so I know in the early days you OFTEN found stuff that was more expensive than you could buy it in a store. People got addicted to the auction aspect of e-bay and would overpay for stuff just because they got over-excited in out-bidding someone else.
I was just curious if this was still prevelent or if people had wised up.

Yeah, in the biggining I do remember that happening. Heck, I may have even done it a few time.
As I was saying though, I havent seen it recently. Then again, I really dont spend alot of time on ebay browsing auctions.

Ebay is a hit and a miss in my opinion. It seems to work well for some and not so well for others.
I guess it all depends on what people that are just starting out want to sell.

| My mother and I started a business on ebay about 3 months ago, and we have only sold a few things so far. I think we need to advertise somehow, but we really can not afford it. So far, the best way we have found to get people to look at our store is to put a couple of the things on auction, and then it always shows other things from our store at the bottom.
