No doubt the answer for me was Word-of-Mouth. I think that is a CERTAIN answer to be honest.

You tell someone, they tell three other people, and you get a huge chain going. You don't even really have to go into specifics with word-of-mouth and you can answer the questions they have without having to do it over the phone.

Word of Mouth is much more personal, interactive and overall the most efficient way to advertise. Plus you make a lot of new friends.

Answer: Word of Mouth - hands down

Unfortunately word of mouth is a bit harder to quantify, but I agree it has always been my best source for new customers, with the lowest cost. :)  I have advertised on radio, television, direct mailers, both letters and postcards, in the newspaper, magazines etc etc.

The problem with traditional media outlets is it is hard to entirely gauge the impact of the advertising 100%.  I think some of my best marketing was in print publications targeted to a very narrow niche associated with my business.  That tended to get the best return on investment.  Television and Radio created a much lower direct impact on the business per dollar spent.

The strategy I used with success offline is kinda gaudy, but it worked!

I wore a shirt that said "ASK ME FOR A FREE SIZZLE CARD"

People, would ask me what my shirt was all about...to which I would give thema  nice bright card with a 800# that gave them an overview of my business opportunity --- it was a great way to generate leads at a very low cost per lead.

I also use to put posters in bus shelter with pull-off tabs --- this was very successful.

But besides my success with these methods...I would say that word-of-mouth and also classified ads with good ad copy can pull really well -- it really depends on the industry and what you are selling.

Your t-shirt idea supports a thought I had the other day.  I have some ideas for some creative marketing with shirts/jerseys for some of my websites that I think will draw some attention.

I think the more creative things you do, the more likely you are to get people to remember you later on.

I would have to go with word of mouth. That is how I have been getting work. People I have worked with telling their friends about me and so on.

Yes, I would also have to say that as far as offline marketing goes, word of mouth has worked the best for me.  It seems that I always have people saying, "I here you do this for your business perhaps you can help..."
