Large sities seem to have way too much competition. There is a large customer base, but some types of companies will have over a hundred different comapnies to pick from. If you look in the phone book under a certain category, the choices are overwhelming, so alot of people will just go with the larger companies that they have already heard of and not even try the smaller companies.

It depends on what kind of business you are in. If it's retail, then location is key.

For example, there are 2 Radio Shack stores in midtown Manhattan, literally around the corner from each other. One is on 42nd Street and the other is on 5th Ave. the two stores are run as seperate standalone stores.

I remember a report that showed both stores sold in excess of 1 million dollars per year. They did not compete with each other because one got the East-West traffic and the other got the North-south traffic.

Thanks for the advice. I think you are correct about retail. I am in the service industry, and there is alot of competition here. Maybe I'm in the wrong business.:)
